Over two decades have passed since the first issue of Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Sandman’ was first published by Vertigo, and proceeded to take the comic world by storm. At the recent San Diego Comic Con, the ace comic writer has now announced his intention to embellish the series mythos.
“When I finished writing ‘The Sandman’, there was one tale still untold.” says Gaiman. “The story of what had happened to Morpheus to allow him to be so easily captured in The Sandman #1, and why he was returned from far away, exhausted beyond imagining, and dressed for war.”
Gaiman will team up with comic artist and friend, J H Williams III, who drew among others, Alan Moore’s ‘Promethea’. Williams is known for his creative use of panels, and is well set to continue the experimental trend and stylistic artistic fluctuations of the original series.
The prequel miniseries will be published by Vertigo. It is expected to hit stands in November 2013, on the 25th anniversary of The Sandman’s first issue, and will be simultaneously available for digital consumption.
